Dare to Pair? Super Bowl 2017 Wine Pairing Suggestions from Penns Woods Winery
Shrimp Cocktail : Penns Woods Gruner Vetliner: The acidity pairs well with cocktail sauce and balances the sweet flavor of fresh shrimp.
Pigs in a blanket : Chardonnay Reserve : The buttery flavors of this classic appetizer are a perfect match to our creamy, yet slightly acidic, Chardonnay. (Try this Recipe: Neeley's Pigs in a blanket)
Hot Wings n' Blue cheese : Penns Woods Traminette :If you pair with either of these wines, the sugar in the wine helps to cut the heat while the acid helps to balance out the acidity in the food. A touchdown of a pairing. (Try this Recipe: Classic Hot Wings)
BBQ Pulled Pork : Chambourcin : This wine has soft tannins and black pepper notes with earth tones through the palate that compliments this full flavored meat dish. (Try this recipe : Burbon Mango Pulled Pork)
Chicken or Beef Chili : Merlot Reserve (mild chili) or Moscato Rose (spicy chili) : If pairing with our Merlot Reserve you will have a perfect amount of big body and smokey flavors with balanced acidity to complete this super bowl classic dish. If you crank up the heat in your chili, try pairing with a Moscato. The low alcohol and sweet tones in the moscato tame the heat and enhances the tomato base. The wine itself will end up tasting much drier than a Moscato making this a very pleasant pairing! (Try this Recipe: Ina Garten Chicken Chili)
